We Review Gungellan Hotel, Freeling 5372

Location: Gungellan Hotel, 2 Gray Street, Freeling, South Australia. It is approximately 68 km from Adelaide CBD, but it is definitely worth the drive.

Venue: Old School Pub with a renovated front bar. There is a Fireplace at the entrance to warm up after your drive. The dining area is extensive, with plenty of room between tables. It is a bit dated but clean and tidy, so that makes up for the lack of fancy decor.

Selection/Toppings: For a country pub, there is a very good selection of schnitzel variations to choose from. We tried a chicken Avo Parmi and a straight beef Parmi.

Size: Good size schnitzels and the Chicken and Beef were both about the same size. A decent feed for most and we took home leftovers for lunch the next day.

Thickness: The chicken Avo Parmi was the perfect thickness for chicken and the Beef Parmigiana was around 10mm thick which for me is starting to get a bit too thick.

Taste: The Chicken Arvo Parmi had great flavour however it did have a bit too much topping and you lost the schnitzel in all that topping.

The beef Parmi had the right amount of topping but only had the Sauce and cheese no ham.

Chips were cooked nicely and there was a decent amount on your plate to compliment the Schnitzel.

Salad: Salad was an extra cost of $2 for a small bowl. Not a lot of lettuce but had cucumber, Tomato and onion. Dressing was nice but way too much as it filled up the bottom of the bowl.

Price: Great value for the quality and quantity that we we received, Chicken Avo Parmigiana was $21 and $2 for the side salad. Beef Parmigiana was $19.

Great spot to go for a drive and spend a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon after a Schnitzel lunch. I gave it good rating for Biggest and Best Schnitzel in Town.

Worth the drive!
